Complex UK Premiere: Following Her Star Turn On Skepta’s ‘Konnichiwa’, Fifi Rong Shares New Song “Holy”

The calmest moments on Skepta’s chart-invading LP Konnichiwa belong to an artist named Fifi Rong, a 26-year-old Londoner whose light and airy vocals drift up a swamp-infested soundscape before a barrage of thundering claps usher in the emcee’s ferocious flow and hearty honesty. One of the strongest album openers in British music history, right now, Fifi can do no wrong. “It was a great honour to have contributed my vocals to Skepta’s Konnichiwa. Not only is it a timeless classic, it’s also a remarkable milestone with far-reaching cultural significance in modern music history,” she told Complex over email. “Having closely witnessed this exciting time for the grime movement, the Konnichiwajourney and Skepta’s militant work ethic and unbreakable spirit, I’m deeply inspired and moved on many levels and behind what the album stands for.”

Growing up in China and falling in love with UK music subcultures, Fifi’s own DIY sound is a melting pot of cross-cultural influences and something she likes to call “hybrid electronica.” And that’s exactly what she’s giving us today on “Holy” (a track taken from her Forbidden Desire EP), which she says “captures a snapshot of my latest development through stages of self-discovery, and projects the imagination of the full picture I’m painting for my forthcoming album.”
