PREMIERE: Fifi Rong – Attack by Too Many Blogs
Having received praise and support from publications such as The 405, Fader and Clash, Fifi Rong is an exciting up-and-coming London-based vocalist, songwriter and electronic music producer.
Already boasting a boldly trademarked sound, Fifi integrates Chinese influences into western pop. Rooted somewhere in dark ambient electronica, her music transcends fixed labels, drifting between a range of eclectic styles and influences.
Whilst impressive early releases resulted in opportunities to work with British music pioneers such as Skeptaand Tricky, Fifi’s mesmerising live performances recently granted her a place on legendary Swiss duo Yello’sseven-date arena tour of Germany, Switzerland and Austria as a special guest.
After a series of critically acclaimed singles, Fifi Rong today continues to refine and master her genre-bending electronic sound with the release of ‘Attack’, the second track from her upcoming EP Awake (released 23rd February). In Fifi’s own words, “Awake is about waking up to the truth after you have hypnotised yourself and deconstructing the paradoxes of human nature: subordination and rebellion, pain and joy, self-limitation and liberation.”
Merging her unmistakably melancholic vocals into an almost ethereal electronic ambience, next week’s EP looks set to be another thrilling exhibition of her playful versatility.
Next month will also see the release of an accompanying animated video made by The Prodigy collaborator Ollie Jones.
Awake will be released on 23 February 2018.
